Jeevananda Ashram Free School and Study Hall

In 1994, before the father died, construction began on a study hall buildng for the home. The building was also to house a free school for the poor children of the area. After the father died, contstruction stopped, leaving only a foundation as a mark of broken dreams for the children. Because the children now have no study hall buildling, their tuition classes are split between a small thatched hut near the road and a simple spot on the driveway, where they must take their evening classes (the hut has no electricity). The Living Heritage Trust would like to see this project completed.

Technical specifications: the current foundation is 90 feet by 22 feet, with an additional room for storage (12 feet by 22 feet). It will have a concrete slab roof with stairs, in case of another Tsunami. The room will also have many large windows, so that natural lighting can be used most of the day, keeping electricity costs low. The estimate for completion of the building is 5,463,284 Rupees, about $55,000 in US dollars. The Living Heritage Trust is happy to provide a detailed breakdown of that estimate to any donor or donor group who may be interested. Please contact us at info@anathi.org for more information.

The current proposal includes one main hall for classes, a smaller room for storage and
school supplies, and stairs to the flat concrete roof, so that the children and villagers
have somewhere to escape to in the event of another Tsunami.
